History
PANGO originated from a lifetime of travel, voluntary work, and teaching.
It evolved directly out of a Thai company called SUV Travel (SUV), which itself had evolved out of a UK company called Helping Hands Travel (HHT).
HHT aimed to organise educational trips for international schools and universities. The main focus of each trip was to be spent visiting with charity organisations in Thailand. The motivation behind HHT was the belief that if even only one student was inspired in such a way to bring about a fairer, more empathic future policy change, then that one single effect could have a greater positive outcome than many lifetimes’ worth of voluntary work.
Before HHT could get properly up and running, however, SUV jumped in on the scene. SUV received the generous support of a digital media company called Move Ahead Media who very kindly helped create the hotel booking platform. SUV developed the unique idea to offer the platform to agents other than the more traditional kind. So, as well as taking hotel bookings from travel agents and medical tour operators, SUV also worked with a number of international schools and hospitals, as well as one of Thailand’s best well-known English media outlets – a broad spectrum of people could take advantage of the discounted hotel rates on offer.
We then realised that the core principles of HHT had somehow been lost along the way, and we were left wondering what happened to our focus on making a meaningful impact on such things as poverty and education. Hence the rebranding into PANGO, which is essentially SUV + HHT.
